Quotable Quote

“…You must do it. You cannot hold back. You have enjoyed yourself in religion long enough. You have sung. You have had pleasant feelings, pleasant songs, pleasant meetings, and pleasant prospects. There has been much human happiness, much clapping of hands, very much of Heaven on earth. Now, then, go to God and tell him you are prepared to turn your back upon it all, and that you are willing to spend the rest of your days grappling with these perishing multitudes…”

William Booth, 1885.

This is kind of where I’m at at the moment. Jesus is giving me a new view of the multitudes and the way that I am to “grapple”; whilst at the same time making me more and more uncomfortable with the “pleasant songs”.

Grace.

  1. I was just organising a devotion for some ministry at a local corps in Melbourne, and I was quoting the exact quote you just gave! Praise Jesus. I’m talking to a group of band guys, and I’m hoping God will challenge us about taking the gospel of Jesus to our community as opposed to just singing about it!

That vision of Booth is awesome. 5 years later in 1890, Booth brought out the In Darkest England stuff, which you may have seen the poster of it. It has the ocean at the bottom of the poster. It’s a great picture of holistic mission.

    Bless you!

  2. Alright I’ll just lay it out Kat.
I can’t remember if I’ve ever met you, but I’ve seen your work and read some of your stuff, God’s using you!

I was blog-surfing tonight and decided to have a look at your site. I immediately felt God saying to me that he’s drawing you to college, which is weird coz I really don’t know too much about you… and whad’ya know, in the first ‘commented’ blog I look at I find my husband!!!! (didn’t know he’d ever been here… hehe)… so I’m taking that as confirmation.

    Get your butt over here!!!!

All this… in love, your sister in Christ,

  3. Maybe I’m not as smart as some of you people out there in blog land, but in the last hour or so I’ve been learning some new words.

We shall win.

"The decree has gone forth that the kingdoms of this world shall become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ and that He shall reign whose right it is from the River to the ends of the earth. We shall win. It is only a question of time. I believe that this Movement shall inaugurate the final conquest of our Lord Jesus Christ."
